Enterprise & Investment Brief

Buy right. Sell right.

Irish retail runs on spreadsheets. We turn them into margin.

Retail Plus Labs builds AI-native software that helps independent retailers buy at the lowest price, protect margin on every line, and run their week on data instead of guesswork.

01 · The problem

A convenience store buys from six suppliers — and prices it all by hand.

A typical Irish forecourt or convenience store orders across BWG, Value Centre, Savage & Whitten, McBrides and more. Prices change every week. Promotions land and expire on different calendars. To buy right, someone opens five spreadsheets and compares line by line — or, far more often, doesn't.

02 · The company

One studio, a family of products, one job: protect the retailer's margin.

Retail Plus Labs is a software company in the North-West building the “Opti” suite — modular SaaS products that each take one messy, manual retail workflow and turn it into an automated decision.

OptiBuy is live and in market. The same engine — parse anything, match everything, recommend the next action — now extends into food costing, department P&L, and forecourt operations.

03 · Flagship product

OptiBuy — buy right, sell right.

Retailers upload their order file and their suppliers' price files. OptiBuy finds the lowest available price for every product across every supplier — catching promotional prices before they expire — and hands back a clear breakdown of what to order from whom, and exactly how much it saves.

Lowest price, always

Every line matched across all suppliers by universal barcode.

Never miss a promo

Promotional prices detected and flagged before they lapse.

Maximise margin

The buying decision that protects margin, made automatically.

Minutes, not hours

One-click Excel order sheets, split by supplier.

€730 of savings surfaced on a single real weekly order — in minutes.

A 207-line convenience order, matched live against real supplier price files. The buyer sees precisely what to move, and to which supplier.

04 · The applications

Four products. One engine. Each kills a different manual job.

OptiBuy

Supplier buying optimisation
Live
The problem

Retailers order from six suppliers whose prices and promos change every week. Comparing them by hand is impossible, so they overpay.

What it does

Matches every product across every supplier by barcode, finds the lowest price — promos included — and outputs a ready-to-order sheet.

Fresh P&L

Weekly department margin
Live
The problem

Fresh and chilled departments quietly leak margin through waste, returns and transfers — and the system margin never matches the real one.

What it does

Reconciles system margin against actual margin every week, and flags exactly where the money is going.

OptiFood

Invoices to food costing
In build
The problem

Deli and food-to-go operators don't know the true margin on a dish — supplier costs move constantly and invoices are never turned into costings.

What it does

Reads supplier invoices and keeps live recipe and dish costing — margin per item, updated automatically as prices change.

OptiOps

Forecourt operations
Piloting
The problem

Forecourts track equipment, maintenance and incidents in people's heads, notebooks and WhatsApp — nothing is in one place, and jobs slip.

What it does

A single operations dashboard for equipment and incidents, in pilot with Tobins Service Station.

A fifth capability is already proven — a bespoke pipeline that turns Tobins' weekly trading PDFs into an automated KPI model, the seed of the next productised app. Every product reuses the same parsing, data and recommendation layer, so each one after the first is faster and cheaper to build.

05 · The engine

The moat isn't a feature. It's the pipeline underneath all of them.

Retail data arrives as a mess — inconsistent spreadsheets, PDF price lists, EPOS exports, supplier invoices. One shared pipeline turns any of it into a decision.

Ingest

Messy inputs

  • Excel & CSV order files
  • PDF price lists
  • EPOS / till exports
  • Supplier invoices
Understand

Document intelligence

  • Auto-detect column layout
  • Normalise product codes
  • Parse PDFs & EPOS formats
Compute

Match & reconcile

  • Universal barcode matching
  • Cross-supplier price graph
  • Margin & P&L engine
Decide

Recommend the action

  • Lowest-price order
  • Forward-buy recommendations
  • Margin & anomaly flags

Product identity resolution

One product carries a different code with every supplier. We resolve them to a single identity across the whole market.

Forward-buy intelligence

Rule-based today: recommend when to stock up ahead of a promotion, and roughly how much to buy.

Forecasting & LLM insight

The roadmap: move from rules to learned models as data accumulates, plus natural-language answers over a retailer's own numbers.

06 · How we build

A one-person company shipping like a team — because the workflow is AI-native.

The entire platform — a multi-product suite, live infrastructure, two tenants — is designed, built and maintained by a single founder working with Claude Code and Replit as AI engineering partners. That's the leverage: the product velocity of a team, at the cost base of one person.

AI-augmented development is the business model, not just a tool.

It's how a bootstrapped studio ships a multi-product platform — and how the next products get built without the next round of hiring. The company scales the way the software does.

The same workflow — already shipping beyond retail

iMotors Warranty Portal

Automotive · built on Replit
Live

Replaces manual, paper-and-spreadsheet warranty tracking for a motor dealership with a single portal for claims, policies and records.

End-to-end Car Sales System

Automotive · in development
In build

Brings a fragmented sale — stock, enquiry, deal, finance and handover — into one connected workflow, from forecourt to signed sale.

07 · How it scales

Built to be sold company-by-company — and to get smarter with every one.

Multi-tenant from line one

Every customer is isolated by company yet served from a single codebase. Adding a retailer is configuration, not construction.

Template-driven onboarding

The system auto-detects each supplier's file format and remembers it. Onboarding cost falls toward zero as formats repeat across customers.

Data compounds

Every file uploaded enriches a shared product-and-price graph. More retailers means better matches and sharper recommendations for all of them — the defensible AI moat.

Cloud-native & automated

Azure Container Apps, CI/CD on every push, secure by design. Growth is a scaling problem to be managed, not a rewrite to be feared.

08 · The market

Thousands of independent Irish retailers, all running the same manual week.

Base

Thousands of convenience stores, forecourts & off-licences across Ireland.

Model

Sold as a monthly subscription — retailer by retailer, recurring revenue.

Channel

The symbol-group ecosystems: SPAR / BWG, Centra, Value Centre and their members.

Then

The wider UK & symbol-retail market once the Irish playbook is proven.

We're not chasing one large deal. We're building a repeatable subscription across a large, underserved base that already lives in exactly the kind of files our engine was built to read.

09 · Traction

Live, in production, with paying retail groups.

Kernans

Convenience group

Runs OptiBuy on live weekly orders and Fresh P&L across chilled departments. The founder buys for this group — so the product is built against a real weekly workflow, not a hypothetical one.

Tobins Service Station

Forecourt

Onboarded end-to-end as a second, fully isolated tenant. Uses suggested-order and cross-supplier matching, and is the pilot site for OptiOps.

Built solo, end-to-end Live at optibuy.retailplus.ie Real production infrastructure — not a prototype

10 · The ask

What we're looking for from the AIM Centre.

Enterprise supports

Access to feasibility and innovation funding pathways — the runway to move from founder-built to a small funded team.

AI solution engineers

Hands-on technical help to productionise the forecasting and LLM layer, and harden the data pipeline for scale.

Technical mentorship

A place, a network and advisors to accelerate from two customers to a repeatable, scalable AI-software company.

The product is proven and in market. With the right technical support behind it, Retail Plus Labs scales from a working product into an Irish AI-software company.
